I’m Ellen Oldenburg, an arctic polar explorer from Germany.

I successfully completed my bachelor's and master's degrees in quantitative biology. I then started my PhD thesis with the MOSAiC project as my main topic. Through my work on this project, I was able to establish valuable contacts with the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI). This enabled me to participate in the 2022 and 2024 expeditions.

The MOSAiC (Multidisciplinary drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate) project is one of the largest international Arctic expeditions ever undertaken. The goal of the project is to gain a comprehensive understanding of the Arctic and its climate processes by drifting the research vessel Polarstern in the Arctic ice for one year, accompanied by numerous research teams from all over the world.

In my spare time I likes to read and dance. This is a good creative balance to my research work.
